David Michael Frank
At 12 years old, David’s father put forth the idea of getting a Fender Stratocaster into his hands. He had no idea that he would be introducing his son into a lifelong journey of music, imagination and creativity.
Now, David Michael Frank is a promising, young talent hailing from the Seattle area and is presently very active in the Eugene, Oregon music scene while finishing his academic life. Frank is not only an experienced composer and stage performer, but also has several years experience with arranging, teaching, production, recording and engineering, and is also quite adept with multiple instruments including voice, guitar, bass, drums and piano.
As luck would have it, one of David’s first guitar teachers was Roger Fisher, the founding guitarist for the band Heart. David developed a deep understanding of the guitar as an extension of his musical imagination. With Roger’s help, David developed his musical ear and focused on the details of improving his guitar skills. He also developed his skills for composition, arrangement and the importance collaborative instrumentation with other musicians. David’s application of these skills can be heard throughout his repertoire.
Expanding his horizons, and as his voice was maturing, David became associated with and studied under the direction of David Serkin-Poole, professional vocalist, tenor, and Senior Cantor of Temple B’nai Torah in Bellevue, Washington. The two have worked collaboratively for the past eight plus years, as Frank has continued to develop his voice as an instrument and an extension of his musical creativity. To further hone his skills, Frank also studied voice at Studio East (performing arts) in Kirkland, WA and has completed his Vocal Performance minor from the University of Oregon.
David has been writing and recording music since he began playing guitar. When he is not collaborating with other musicians, he composes, arranges and records all of the instruments himself in his developing recording studio. David’s recording career began with a simple 4-track cassette recorder and over the years and with multiple recording platforms, Frank has developed a keen expertise with engineering, producing and mixing his recordings. Currently, Frank performs recording and engineering around Eugene at various venues developing and refining the sounds of other performers and bands, as well as his own music.
As a performer, and having played in numerous bands such as The Primacy Effect, The Campaign, Dreams of the Crash, and Planet Eater, David has many ongoing projects. He is currently in the studio with long-time band mate, Ben Bateman, composing and recording music as Fight the Moon, in an original, fresh, contemporary acoustic-electric genre utilizing the current advancement of digital audio composition. David and Ben’s collaboration and partnership reflects their skills as writers and performers, singers and musicians, inspiring the most out of each other’s talents.
In addition to devoting his time and efforts to writing and producing music, David is currently working towards a Bachelor of Science degree at the University Of Oregon School Of Business Administration, focusing on entrepreneurial management. He is also pursuing a minor in music and an Associate’s Degree in Audio Engineering. He expects to be graduated from UO by Winter 2010 and off to LA to dive into the fast-paced Los Angeles music scene. Read more on Last.fm.
